Hospice Care is a philosophy

Hospice Care is a philosophy, not a place. It is an interdisciplinary approach to end-of-life care, when a patient diagnosed with six-months or less to live, is no longer seeking curative measures. Hospice Care focuses on comfort and quality of life for the patient and their loved ones. At some point, curative measures are no longer an option, or a patient may choose to no longer undergo treatments. Hospice is designed for these situations.

Hospice Care focuses on symptom management and quality of life. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, nurse aides, social workers, spiritual care providers, and volunteers, professionally trained to address the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and their loves ones.

Most Hospice Care is provided where the patient lives, whether that is a private residence, nursing home, or group home. Hospice Care is also available in Hospitals and Hospice Residents, such as The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, located in Newburgh, NY. Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most Commercial Insurance.
