What Is Hospice?
If you aren’t able to find the information you are looking for, please call us, and we’ll be happy to help you find answers to give you peace of mind and comfort. We’re here for you.
How is Hospice different?
Hospice offers palliative care (comfort care) rather than curative treatment, for individuals who are diagnosed with a life expectancy of six months or less. Hospice care includes pain and symptom control to enable the patient to live as fully and comfortably as possible. Our special kind of caring treats the person, not the disease, and considers the entire family, not just the patient.
What services does Hospice provide?
- Nursing care
- Pain and symptom control
- Patient/family instructions on care
- Home health aide services
- Social worker services
- Spiritual care
- Volunteer services to patients/families
- Bereavement services for the entire community
- Medical equipment
When is the right time to call Hospice?
When a patient with an advanced end-stage illness has a life expectancy of less than six months, it’s time to call. The more time hospice has to work with a family/patient, the more we can help.
Who pays for Hospice?
Most, if not all, of hospice services are covered by major health insurance plans, Medicare and Medicaid. In cases where individuals are uninsured, sliding fee scales are available. Hospice will not deny services to anyone on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, or handicap. Admission to Hospice is based on need rather than the ability to pay.
