Social Workers Lend Support to Hospice Care in the Hudson Valley
Tending to the emotional and mental needs of a loved one nearing the end of life is one of the most challenging aspects of becoming a caregiver. Fortunately, Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc. offers services that shift some of this responsibility away from family members to the social workers who are an integral part of any hospice care team in the Hudson Valley and beyond. These workers provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families and even continue their helpful work after a patient’s passing.
Hospice social workers assess a patient’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being, constantly evaluating the care plans’ effectiveness. Some matters they assist with include but are not limited to:
- Counseling for the patient and family
- Funeral planning
- End-of-life wishes
