Kaplan Family Hospice Residence: Inpatient Care for Your Loved Ones in Orange County

Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc., typically provides end-of-life care that allows patients to continue living comfortably at home or within the nursing homes to which they have grown accustomed. Some patients, however, require 24-hour attention and increased access to the medical care available at a specialized facility. For those patients, Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc. operates its Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, the only facility in either Orange or Sullivan County designed to provide 24-hour hospice care.

The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence also offers short-term general inpatient hospice care (GIP) that is available for individuals receiving hospice care at home, during periods of crisis, if pain and symptoms cannot be managed at home. The need for general inpatient care is evaluated by the hospice team and ordered by the hospice medical provider. The goals of care are to control symptom burden and improve the quality of life for both patient and family. This specific short-term care aims to decrease pain and increase comfort to our greatest ability, allowing the patient to return home where they can continue to receive hospice care.

But how do you know if you or a loved one is a good fit for Kaplan Family Hospice Residence? Initially, the need is evaluated by our hospice team. Inpatient care is ordered by the hospice medical provider in coordination with the family and patient’s desires. Our greatest aim is to reduce the burden on both patients and families.

One of the best aspects of the residence is 24/7 care from registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and hospice aides. Residents also benefit from the presence of social workers, spiritual care counselors, and bereavement counselors to ensure the needs of both patient and family are met. There is a team of qualified, caring professionals who staff Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, and their focus is providing the greatest aid to our residents.
