Hospice Care Support Group Allows Hudson Valley Families to Thrive

Grief is more than a natural reaction to loss. It’s an ongoing process by which we transition into a new phase of life. Through our Thriving Families support group, Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc., invites you and your family to relate to others experiencing a similar loss. This benefit of hospice care promotes healing by providing Hudson Valley families with opportunities for youth to share their experiences and articulate their thoughts and feelings. 

The program is designed for children at least six years old through teens. We inspire expression through the following means:  

• Art
• Music
• Books
• Discussion

Thriving Families encourages family involvement and provides weekly topics and themes with structured activities for young people. The Thriving Families Program consists of a Youth Portion and an Adult Portion. To learn more about the Thriving Families program, please click here.  

While this program is focused on adolescents, Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc. invites parents and caretakers to participate in Nurturing Families, the adult portion of the Thriving Families program.  

Nurturing Families consists of discussions covering multiple subjects, including the physical and emotional impacts of grief and loss. We also offer virtual support to the community as well as bereavement groups for those currently experiencing loss. 

 In addition to these programs, our hospice care teams include trained professionals who provide emotional and spiritual support throughout end-of-life care. These caregivers offer comfort through quiet presence, prayer, meditation, and culturally appropriate rituals for various faiths without prejudice. 

The grieving process is a personal journey, and each path is unique. However, you and your loved ones don’t have to be alone. Our staff will be with you every step, providing emotional and spiritual support.
