Watching a loved one grow weaker leaves family and friends feeling helpless, especially if having to provide care they might not feel qualified to give. Stress and uncertainty can fill final days we would rather use to say our goodbyes and celebrate a life filled with stories, laughs, and lessons. Hospice care gives those days back to families and ensures that patients are comfortable and receive dignity and respect.

The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence (KFHR) is located on Sunrise Lane in Newburgh, New York. It is the only facility in Orange and Sullivan counties able to provide 24-hour Hospice care from registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and Hospice aides under the guidance of Hospice Medical Director, Dr. Robert Dinsmore.

KFHR caters to the physical and spiritual needs of its residents and their visitors. 11 private rooms include bath, phone, cable TV, computer access, and attached patios. There are comforts like gardens and a meditation room. Among the numerous amenities are a sunroom, parlor, and dining room, as well as on-site laundry facilities for residents’ belongings. Most impressive is the Nourishment Center, which provides the feel of home by allowing visitors to cook favorite meals for their loved ones. This is in addition to the three home-style meals prepared daily by KHFR’s chef manager and kitchen staff. The center is also stocked with snacks that are available to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Reassurance and compassion are vital to residents and family alike during such an emotional time. Social workers, spiritual and bereavement counselors, and trained volunteers are all present at KFHR to meet everyone’s needs. Visiting hours are unlimited and unrestricted by age, and family pets are permitted to visit, as well.
