2024 Welcome Home Vietnam Veteran Day

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed every year on March 29 and is a way to thank and
honor our Nation’s Vietnam-era veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.

Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties Veterans Committee hosted its fourth annual Thank You and
Memorial Ceremony on March 29 at 10:00 a.m. at The Cornwall Yacht Club in observance of National
Vietnam War Veterans Day. In early 2017, Congress passed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act,
establishing March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The day is also known as “Welcome Home
Vietnam Veterans Day.”

“Today is an opportunity to recognize and give thanks to those who served during the Vietnam War,
including those who were wounded, gave their lives, or went missing,” said Sandra Cassese, RN, MSN,
CNS, President and CEO of Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties. “National Vietnam War Veterans Day
is the hero’s welcome they never received. It underscores the need to heal painful wounds and allows us
to pause and give respect and thanks to the patriotic men and women who sacrificed so much in service
to their nation.” The ceremony included reading the names of the 78 individuals from Orange and
Sullivan County who never came home from the Vietnam War.

This event was free and open to the public. Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties and other community
organizations and individuals covered the costs. If you would like to donate to the Hospice of Orange &
Sullivan Counties Veterans program, please mail a check, payable to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan
Counties, to 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550. Be sure to note the donation is for Veterans.
