Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Event
National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed every year on March 29 and is a way to thank and honor our Nation’s Vietnam-era Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.
Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties Veterans Committee will host its fourth annual Thank You and Memorial Ceremony on March 29 at 10:00 a.m. at The Cornwall Yacht Club in observance of National Vietnam War Veterans Day. In early 2017, Congress passed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, establishing March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The holiday is also known as “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.”
This day is an opportunity to recognize and give thanks to those who served during the Vietnam War, including those who were wounded, gave their lives, or went missing. National Vietnam War Veterans Day is the hero’s welcome they never received. It underscores the need to heal painful wounds and allows us to pause and give respect and thanks to the patriotic men and women who sacrificed so much in service to their nation.
The ceremony will occur at The Cornwall Yacht Club on March 29 at 10:00 a.m. and includes a prayer, a reading of names of the 78 individuals from Orange and Sullivan County who never came home from the Vietnam War, and the playing of Taps.
Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties is a Level 5 Community Partner of “We Honor Veterans,” a campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Through this program, Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties gratefully acknowledges the military, its servicemen and women, and their families. It aims to create a Veteran-centered organization through education, strategic partnerships, resources, and Veteran recognition. Its mission is to serve our Nation’s Veterans who have served us.
