FORESTBURGH – On Saturday, August 12, 2017, the Forestburgh 5K, recently dubbed a “Diamond in the Woods” kicked off precisely at 8:30 am with 165 walkers and runners.  The beauty of the course together with the beauty of the commitment and hard work of many, made this race one of the most successful.

While Forestburgh’s annual race, now 11 years old, provides a scenic, fun and competitive event for participants, the most important aspect of the race is the money it raises.  This year’s event had more than 350 sponsors and donors and raised more than $30,000 for Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., which provides end of life care and services to over 200 families in Sullivan County each year and bereavement services including Camp Chrysalis for children grieving the loss of a loved one.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of the Sullivan County community for the Forestburgh 5K last Saturday,” Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc. President/CEO Dan Grady said. “We would like to thank our sponsors and the race Founder Hon. Anthony Kane and Race Director for the past two years Susan Goodreds.”

“We had a wonderful event and attracted more than 160 runners and walkers,” said Susan Goodreds. “Thanks go to a terrific committee, hardworking volunteers, community organizations, sponsors and donors.”
